Synopsis Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Dans une petite ville du Hunan au début du XIXe siècle, Li Li et Xue Hua sont meilleures amies malgré leur différence sociale. Une divination prédit qu’elle sont les âmes soeurs l’une de l’autre, et leurs familles les empêchent de se voir. Elle communiquent alors via un language secret sur un éventail.
Dans le présent, Nina s’apprête à partir en voyage d’affaires aux États-Unis losqu’elle apprend que son amie Sophia est hospitalisée suite à un accident de voiture. Lorsqu’elle étaient plus jeunes, Nina et Sophia se considèrent comme âmes soeurs ont signé un pacte d’amitié pour la vie. Mais les deux amies sont sont perdues de vue jusqu’à ce jour.
