Tsuneo, étudiant à l’université, travaille à temps partiel dans un club de mahjong. Souvent, les clients parlent d’une vieille dame et du contenu mystérieux du landau qu’elle promène. Un jour, il le découvre par hasard : c’est une jeune fille paraplégique du nom de Kumiko mais qui se fait appeler Joze (nom du personnage de son livre préféré). Une amitié se développe entre eux, jusqu’à peu à peu se transformer en amour.
